The Lab Atelier

It began with a colour she couldn't name. A pink she found before ever seeing Monet's Water Lilies at the Met — and recognised again the moment she stood in front of them. NIA was born from that recognition: the belief that a stone, like a painting, can hold a particular quality of light that belongs to no other.

Hania founded NIA to build jewellery around that idea — pieces where the stone is the subject, the gold is the gesture, and nothing is decorative for its own sake.

Hania Gazar trained in graphic design at the American University in Cairo, where she developed the eye for form, proportion and restraint that shapes NIA today. She went on to join DIMA Jewellery, where she oversaw design and rose to brand manager — learning how a stone is chosen, how a piece is built, and how a house is run. She holds the Applied Jewelry Professional (AJP) certification from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

NIA is the meeting of those two disciplines: the designer's eye and the jeweller's world.

At the heart of NIA is a proprietary language of cuts — the tulip among them — shapes drawn to catch light in ways the standard repertoire cannot. Each is designed in-house, an attempt to give a stone a silhouette you could recognise across a room.

NIA works exclusively in lab-grown fancy-colour diamonds: pinks, blues, yellows and greens. The stones are sourced one by one, from suppliers across the world — never bought in wholesale, never in parcels chosen for us. Each is handpicked by the founder for its colour, its cut and its character, and each is independently certified.

We believe the future of extraordinary colour is grown, not mined — that a stone's rarity should live in its cut and its character, not in the cost of taking it from the earth. A stone that doesn't earn its place is never used.

NIA is a designer-first atelier, rooted in Cairo. Every piece is drawn by hand, then brought to life in our workshops alongside the city's craftspeople — jewellers and artisans whose skill is part of what makes each piece what it is. We design in Cairo, we make in Cairo, and we consider that a point of pride, not a footnote.

We work slowly and in small numbers, because the promise at the centre of NIA is a simple one: you will never see your piece on someone else.
